Why IBA uses FP-10

] It’s thick enough that it DOES NOT migrate [blow off or run off to another part] leaving the part you intended to be lubricated, un-lubricated.

] It’s mostly synthetic with an operating range of -37 degrees F up to 500+ degrees F. The hottest an M4 carbine gets is around 475 F. Most other oils and lubes either burn off or get slung off during full auto firing.

] It only takes a little bit to work well unlike LSA from the Viet Nam War ERA, where the machine guns were bathed in whatever was at hand.

] Accuracy (AR15/M16 Variants) is clinically improved by placing the smallest couple of drops on the gas rings, always keeping them lubricated. High Power rifle shooters place a drop on the gas rings after each stage of fire and claim saved points. A weapon that is lubed properly cycles evenly, thereby stripping and feeding each round consistently, contributing to enhanced accuracy.

] It smells pretty good. Some oils smell rotten or foul—this stuff smells like weapons oil. [We think that’s why folks still use Hoppes #9—it’s the smell associated with cleaning guns].

] Operationally, the rifleman doing a lot of shooting in a day—we’re talking 400+ rounds per day and no time to have a cleaning session, use FP-10 as a religious right. Most can’t or won’t admit this because the only authorized oil, or whatever you want to call BREAKFREE, is allowed. My thoughts on BREAKFREE CLP are—it doesn’t clean, lube OR protect well. Here’s a test. Dig out your M9 pistol and put CLP on it. Shoot 90 rounds and look at the end of the slide at the dark colored goo that has collected—some call it elephant snot. If you haven’t shot 90 rounds recently, you probably haven’t noticed anything weird. Do the same thing with FP-10. There will be no elephant snot.

] Weapons that are lubed with FP-10 clean up faster.

] We can reason from the comments above, that there is less friction, hence less wear, which means your weapons parts last a lot longer.

] The cost is similar to other good and bad lubes out there.

NOW YOU KNOW WHAT WE KNOW-the ‘CHOICE’ is yours.
